Psalm 33:1 – Rejoice in the lord, O you righteous!
For praise from the upright is beautiful.

At the outset of 2009 I want to start this year off right. I want to begin with my best foot forward – and that’s by praising God! Praise from the upright is beautiful because it’s a victorious sound. It’s a sound that’s full of joy and promise. It’s a sound that declares, ‘we are God’s children,’ and, ‘we have overcome the world! We have nothing to be shy about and we should not be afraid to proclaim His magnificence to a generation who is desperate need of finding their Saviour and King! I guess you can tell that I’m a little excited? Yes I am and we all have a reason to be excited!

You see nothing retreats in the Kingdom of God… As we continue on our journey of discovering who our God is, we find that things become more glorious. We are changed from glory to glory. We should be like Moses, who came down from the mountain in Exodus with his face glowing – he was radiant. So much so, that he had to veil his face. He had seen God and uncovered more of who God is. You may be saying, well I’m far from that kind of reality happening in my world Mark. I had a horrible year last year, full of challenge and heartache… Well let me say firstly that God knows your situation and everything that you have gone through and His compassion is towards you.

But let me also encourage you to lift your chin and look a little higher… God has prepared good things for you in 2009. Try to get your eyes off your circumstance and look towards Jesus. Not that you pretend that your circumstance is not there, no… but you choose to believe for something good to happen! It’s a new year and a new day and I believe that God has a fresh plan for you – beginning NOW! He is ready to pour our blessing and provision upon your world – but FAITH is the key. Simple belief. And I understand that sometimes it takes courage to get up and try again, especially when your heart is heavy, but I believe that as you make the decision to try again and believe again, God will be there for you and he surround you with people and provision to help you. He is right there with you now… Don’t stay where you are! Choose to love again, choose to live again, choose to believe again and choose to have another go…

Psalm 33:4 – For the word of the Lord is right,
And all His work is done in truth.

Wow… what a great realisation to come to. Knowing that the word of the Lord is right. The will be a lot of things that seem right in 2009, but that doesn’t mean that they are right. The Bible says in Proverbs 16:25 – ‘There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.’  This is a great scripture because it tells us that some things seem right. Let’s take sickness for example, it may be a reality, however its not the highest form of reality we can have. Health and wholeness is God’s reality for your life and we need to believe for this! By His stripes you were healed. (1Pet 2:24) Also lack may be a reality in your world and that may ‘seem right’ – but again let me say that, ‘You are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.’ (Ephe 1:3) That means that everything that is His, is mine in Christ! God is not stopping us from having anything in 2009. I believe that we are the ones that are blocking the ability of God in sending us stuff. We receive everything by faith and, ‘whatever is not of faith is sin.’ (Rom 14:23) So lets have a heart of FAITH.

Let’s decide in 2009 that we will choose God’s word over all! Let’s decide that we will not move away from His word no matter what the cost! Let’s be adamant about His promises this year. And I believe that as we do this God will take us forward into the kind of life we have only ever dreamed of. May it be a year where our dreams begin to come to pass!

So keep praising God and keep believing what is right in 2009!

Much love,
Mark.

Mate, I love this...it's challenging, uplifting and relevant. You should write a book, bro. Since the summer when I visited a church in the States to get a bit of exposure to their worship team, how they flow as a band, etc (International House of Prayer, in Kansas) I have been deeply impacted by a message focusing on the power that we have to make choices as followers of Christ to change our lifestyles to more seriously pursue the One thing that we love. A guy called Corey Russel did a sermon on John the Baptist and being a 'forerunner' in the spirit of the friend of the Bridegroom (John 3)- you would have absolutely loved it! As part of this he talked about our need for 'apetite transfers' when it comes to the Word, prayer, acts of justice, evangelism and fasting. This is what God is doing in me...bring on 2009! Bless ya man, Nick
